What is the History of this Event?

Féile Draíochta was last held on Saturday 1st October 2016, from 9.30 am until 6 pm in The Camden Court Hotel, Dublin 2. It has been run by the same organisers – Barbara Lee and Lora O’Brien – since 2003, when it was called Craftfest and the venue was the Red Cow Moran Hotel. In 2004 it was named Witchfest Ireland, and held in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire.

They renamed the event Féile Draíochta in 2005, when that event and the 2006  event were run independently, both happening in The Park Inn Hotel (which was Chief O’Neill’s Hotel in ’05), in Smithfield, Dublin.

In 2009, due to popular demand they decided to hold a smaller come back event in Wynn’s Hotel on Abbey Street, a return after a few years due to personal tragedies and life changes in both Lora’s and Barbara’s lives. Busy lives and changes in focus meant they were unable, due to time constrictions, to organise an event in 2010. However, the success of the 2009 event, despite the smaller space, led them on the search for our present location for 2011 in the Camden Court Hotel. They found the venue completely suited the needs of the event and so returned there a sixth time for the 2016 event, sadly. After the 2016 event, Barbara and Lora have mutually decided to step down as organisers. Hopefully there will be a new team in place to take on the running of the 2017 event.

Why Are We Doing This?

Spiral Dance Closing Ritual 2015

Spiral Dance Closing Ritual 2014

This is a completely non-profit event, entirely staffed and run by volunteers, for the pagan community and all interested in earth based spirituality in Ireland. It is our aim that any profit raised will be returned to the community; in the form of a purchase of land for a ritual and burial site, open to all of earth based spirituality in the country.
